Fashion vs Style

by littlefashionistaontheprairie

The difference between style and fashion is simple, and yes there is a difference (a HUGE one in fact).

Fashion can be bought, style cannot!

Style is something you are born with; it is created by you and is yours only. No one else will have the same style as you, it’s unique and it is yours for life. Fashion on the other hand; is mass-produced, misguided (in most cases), and always changing. It is not unique in any way, nor is it you.

Fashion Math – Fashion equals “Hammer” pants (don’t pretend like you don’t know what those are!) and Style equals Jackie O.

There are few people in this world that have style. Emmanuelle Alt, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Paris, is amongst those few.

Le sigh, I heart her… Her style is simple, chic and a little bit edgy. She is the essence of “Parisian Chic”. Think leather, blazers, half tucked in tees, boots and black, lots of black. Emmanuelle is effortless to the max, but oh so modern and sexy. Plus, she looks super bad ass…

Her look is a uniform for her, it is predictable but that’s ok. It works and she knows it. You will never see her looking uncomfortable or hear her questioning if “this looks good with that”. She knows what works for her, what doesn’t and she sticks with it.

It is very important as a Fashionista to identify your own style and work with it. Don’t ever go against your gut feelings when it comes to your style. Don’t worry about what the latest and greatest trend you should be copying is or what celebrities are wearing. None of that is you. You know what works for you, not the sales girl at Holt Renfrew.
