Big kid in adult clothing…

by littlefashionistaontheprairie

To this day I still remember the first outfit I was allowed to pick out on my very own, a nautical t-shirt with an anchor and matching red and white striped skirt… Feeling like an extremely accomplished kindergartner, I strutted my stuff like a 5 year old Cindy Crawford on that playground. I felt like an “Adult”, the world was my oyster and nothing could bring me down!

Fast-forward 20+ years and I can assure you, I still get that same feeling! The only thing that changed is that I am now an adult, of sorts…

When I think of that memory, I am reminded of a time when the world was so new and exciting, every day was like Christmas. I was never saddened by the ways of the world, I couldn’t possibly get my heart broken (especially not while wearing those ruby slippers!), and playing with Barbie’s and Lego was my only priority.

I guess my whole point in this post is that, for me, holding on to that innocence is extremely important. Don’t get me wrong I love being an adult. After all, 5 year olds can’t drink wine! I just think that when we grow up we get too serious and full of ourselves. Why is it wrong to dream of a place where worries melt like lemon drops? Why can’t I monopolize the swings at the park? Who made up these stupid ‘Adult Rules” anyway? My money is on an adult who was never able to pick out their own school clothes…

I’m always going to be a big kid in adult clothing… The day that stops, will be my last.
